LO2: Be Able to Initiate, Plan And Design a New Interactive Media Product To A Client Brief

The name of my website is going to be ERMedia. the website will be a way of me showing off the work that I have done in and out of school for uni and beyond. I will be making several different pages each with their own project that I have completed such as blender modelling maya and CDM in school. I will aim to make a simplistic and clean looking website for my portfolio.

The stlye that I have chosen to work in is a information based website. The website will be formal as I may use it later for interviews with uni or later with jobs it will also need to look to a professional standard.

The platform that the product will need to be created for is the either on a pc or on a phone or tablet. This means that I will have to be careful about not only the complexity of the site but also with the functionality on a less powerful device e.g not too many graphics or other graphic heavy features. People will be able to access the website through the internet meaning that the website will have a url. I have chosen this method because of the already in place features to help me make and upload and for people to be easily able to see the website.  The people who view the website will see a showreel of work on the main page.

The product will have some interactive features such as buttons along the top of the page for accessing other parts of the the website such as a contact me button as a well as having other buttons at the top of the page to take them to the text describing what each product is about. This will suit and show that I can create a more interactive experience for my website. I will have a gallery page for people to be able to see the work that I have created this will be able to be clicked through by the user of the website. Their will be an interactive website.

I will need a selection different things to make the website I will need a logo images and a video all made by me. I will also need to come up with the colour scheme and other various graphics to go onto the website.

I will need the constant use of my pc laptop and a camera as well as the internet. I will need to take photos using a camera and sd card I will need to use recording software and editing software to make the video for the website. I will also need to use dreamweaver and basic to create the website itself this is for the coding and assembling parts of the project.

LO1: Be Able To Compare Interactive Media Products

Apple:

Apple Website The purpose of this product is to create a easily accessible and easy to understand website for a major brand in the is case Apple. The website itself is very well designed and has a simple white aesthetic making the buttons easily visible and making the page as a whole fit together a lot better.

This image is of the home screen of the website. The website currently has a new product launch planned for tomorrow. This makes the eye be immediately drawn to the image and this lets the user know immediately what is happening on the page in front of them making the image effective and the image is also a video increasing the interest to me as a user. The rest of the page is taken up by buttons for the navigation and the scroll wheel. The buttons themselves are just the text all of the button work and the striking colours of black and white make the user able to clearly see what to press on.

In terms of me using the website I found the website easy to navigate and I like the simple design of each pages and I want to be able to use this simple style for my website. When using the website I found that all of the buttons worked and the website had a lot of nice graphics that were either animated or fit into the style of the pages. For example the navigation bar used image instead of a lot of text. This provided a more visual element to the page which added more style to the page. All of the items on the page worked properly the page has a border which contains the search engine scroll bar.

The website is clearly laid out on the page and is easy to read. The website uses a colour scheme of black and white to ensure that the pages and the text on them is readable. The UX on the website has clearly had a lot of thought.

This is an image of the Ipad page on the apple website it clearly shows the product that you would want to buy and this means that the user can clearly decide what they want to do next. They ave again stick to the contrasting colours of black and white for the page as well as adding button to the top of the screen with small images. By doing this they have been able to turn the page into more of a game looking aesthetic making the website more entertaining. This is key because of Apple's wide target audience for their range of products the web browser that I have used to compare all of these different apps and websites is Google Chrome this is because it is the main website browser that I would use on a daily basis.

When I use the website on my phone the website stays similar the main things that change are that the bar at the top of the website disappear and they are now contained in a drop down list which is still easily accessible the top video is now only and image and the image is cropped. When I go to the same Ipad website page the content stays the same with the image and the text being the same with there now being a scroll bar at the top of the page with the rest of the icons.

Instagram:

Instagram the purpose of Instagram is to let users show and post their own content and have users react to it the UX is clean and simple on a pc the website looks almost identical to the phone app.

The design of the home page is very basic and easy to navigate with the simple white design with a splash of colour with the images. This makes the platform easy to navigate and increases the usability and increases the range of the target audience. The website always has a feed in the in the center of the screen. This is attracts the eye of the user meaning that they will be intrigued and want to scroll on the app. the feed is also constantly updated with the content form either from people that you have followed or the content that you have reacted positively to. Meaning that it is always changing and updating depending on your actions.

There is then on the right hand side of the screen a list of suggested people that u might know or want to follow this will also be constantly updated and changed depending on what and who's content you are looking at.

The page also has a search bar at the top of the page which lets you search hashtags users or even specific posts or videos allowing for a user to single out and find the exact post that they want to see. the search bar will also give you suggestions based on your interactions on the app. This is also to help keep the users interest and increase the amount of time that they are on the app so that they can see more adverts and therefore have higher likelihood of buying or being distracted by the adverts that are shown to them.

In terms of using the website the site was well laid out although the website was more compacted with a large amount of plain white space. This is because the website is meant to be used on a phone. The use of the website was good all of the buttons worked properly and the website ran smoothly on Chrome. I like the look of the website. The simple colour scheme of white and black works effectively to guide the eye to the center of the website. This is where most of the elements on the page are.

This is photo of a profile page on the platform, most of the page is taken up by the previous posts that you have posted. The rest of the page is filled up with various statistics like how many followers you have and how many people you have followed. The colour them stays that same as it was on the main page of Instagram. This improves the UX of the platform. On this page there is also a menu in the top right of the screen with settings and the buttons to let you upload new posts for people to see. Within these tools there is basic editing software and various different gimmicks that can be done like a simple greenscreen and basic visual effects. There is also a photo editing part to the tool meaning that all of the basic editing can be done from within the app making the app more appealing and easier to use for a larger age range of people.

Roblox:

Roblox the purpose of Roblox is to let users create accounts and then not only play games but also publish them and then be able to make money using the site. There are 2 different parts of roblox there is the playing software, this is called Roblox player and then there is the Roblox Studio which is where the games are created. Because anyone can use this software for free it means that anything and anyone can post their games on the site for anyone with an account can play.

There are several different abilities and tools that you can use in the roblox Player. There are lots of in game customisations that cost real money to the user, this is a way that the creators can make money on Roblox. There is also the ability to pay for in game specific power ups. This can add a P2W element to most games.

This is the first page that loads up once a user will login into Roblox there are immediately various different tools on show that the user can use. One of these is the the ability to be able to see what your friends are doing on the platform, you can then immediately click on a little green popup and join their game with one click. The UX itself has been designed for a younger audience. Therefore the platform keeps a simple white layout on all devices allowing the user to easily see what they are clicking on. On the main page there is also a large amount of the page filled up with game suggestions suggested by an algorithm based on your last played game and popular games with your friends on on the platform in general.

With using Roblox on Chrome the website works well, all of the buttons work properly the website uses a simple layout that allows the primary audience who are younger to use the website efficiently, this is key and allows for easy navigation and use of the website. The icons are large and clear to click on allowing for any user to know how to use the website. The layout reminds me of youtube with its thumbnail system. The website runs well on Chrome. I do not like the use of adverts around the side of the website as I think that this makes the website too blocky although its does appeal to a younger target audience.

Unlike other game platforms Roblox has the ability to be paid to fill advertising pages for other game they are on the left and right of the home page. This is one of the only platforms that does this, this means that that there is even more direct ways for game developers to advertise their games. Turning the platform into more of a traditional website theses ads are the same on the phone version of the apps

I think that the biggest draw to roblox in terms of features is the customization of he character that you play all of the games with. Roblox has one of the largest clothing and accessories options of many games with their being developers who make new items everyday. Some of these items are rare and can then be traded across accounts. e.g a hat sells for in game Robux (roblox in game currency). That can then be redeemed by the developers for real life money through Roblox Corporation.

NGPF:

NGPF Interactive library the purpose of this information point is to let the users look up certain information in more detail than say Wikipedia in this case business and learning how to run bank accounts/finances in general. It is aimed at younger audiences and could easily be used as a learning resources for schools and teachers and their students.

This is the home page of the website. The home page of the website has a simple white and blue design this will improve the UX  of the website. It is way to navigate and the tolls and the buttons for the different pages and linked clearly together.

The page has a specific box for typing a subject and then the website will find related articles or similar results to the word that you searched for example in the article heading. it will then display all of the results that have that word in them. There is also a login option so that you can save from where you left of reading.

There is also a learn more button that wil, tell the user information about what the website is and and how it operates. This helps with the user being able to easily understand and use the website. There are several different tabs with one of them being a student and teacher tab this will show the specific information for teachers and students for example taking away all of the distractions from the home page and making the website only display the information that the user needs for example removing the about login and signup options near the top of the page. This will allow the user to more easily be able to find the specific information that they want to find on the website.

On Chrome the website work properly all of the buttons on the website work an the website can be used without any issues. The website looks very plain and uninteresting this is because the website is for information. Having too many different elements and colours on the page means that people can get distracted and it can detract from the UX.

All of the buttons on the top of the page dropdown to show a larger more specific list of subject areas for the user to click on. This is another improvement and ease of access feature that has been added to make the UEX (User Experience) better.

The website looks and works the same on a mobile device the only change is that the phone version of the website is more compressed because of the size of the screen on a phone compared to a pc or laptop.

Pottermore Website the purpose of this website is to advertise and provide an interactive website for fans of the harry potter franchise. The website features sections with games and other interactive puzzles as well as sections with information about the author of the books and the franchise as a whole.

An example of this is the feature that they have on the website that allows them to be able to see and be sorted into the houses. These are Gryffindor hufflepuff Ravenclaw Slytherin. This is just one of the many features that the website has to increase the UEX making the website better overall.

The Website has a very strong striking image on the main page this is then followed by and ties in with the look of the website overall. The is makes the website easier to use and navigate. The website then has increased activity. Another way that the website has to capture the audience is that they can read about the certain films and there is a very well documented part of the website for each film. This lets the website have multiple uses as an information site as well as having more interactive parts to it.

The website also works on a mobile app but the screen is compressed and some of the options are compressed into drop down boxes unlike the computer. Below is an example of another more interactive page.

The website works well on Chrome the website all of the buttons work and the website uses a simple colour scheme this allows the users of the website to not be as easily distracted. The website uses simple but effective fonts and graphics to ensure that the website is not too overwhelming.

The website is well laid out allowing the page to naturally flow. There are no adverts on the page this helps with not detracting from the main subject of the page. The page uses house colours and the Harry Potter trademark text to keep synergy throughout the different pages.

This is the page for the interactive quizzes there is a main image in the center of the page this immediately draws your eye to the center of the page. One the right of the image there is a hyperlink to the quiz this is easy to access and see there are several different quizzes on this page each with different headings.

These should cover a range (4-6) of products from different styles and target audiences.
